Do Natural Deodorants Work?

Here’s the quick and skinny on non-toxic deodorants. I’ve also included a easy shopping tip and a selection of 5 choices I’ve tried and actually worked! I won’t even talk about the ones that didn’t, cause that list is looong!

Why You Need A Clean Stick

I know there’s tons of chemicals and stuff you can’t pronounce in there, but you haven’t found anything quite effective. Sounds familiar? What if I just wave this warning sign out there once again  and give you some options? Would you still be reading? I thought so (insert my cheesy face here!)

Here’s Dirty On These Mainstream Sticks

Most of the deodorants you see at the store are effective, but also made with some pretty harsh toxins. What are the toxins mostly found in deoderants?

Aluminum- Read more about that here on EWG

Parabens-Methylparaben is in the paraben family of preservatives used by the food, pharmaceutical, and personal care product industries. Parabens mimic estrogen and can act as potential hormone (endocrine) disruptors.

Steareths- There’s some data gaps, but its a chemical. Read more here.

Triclosan- Very high on the toxin scale on EWG. Basically and endocrine disruptor.

Proprylene Glycol – An Alcohol linked with Dermatitis.

I hope your still with me!

What You Should Get Instead?

Go for anything non-toxic. Read the label and make sure most of the ingredients are natural. If it shows “Drugs” on the label, just say no. I know not everyone can go on buying 12 deodorants to find the right one. So I’m going to give you some suggestions I tried.

Pro Tip: Ones with Baking Soda can give rashes, don’t judge the packaging, and coconut oil as an ingredient is da cause it goes on nice.

The 5 Deodorants I Recommend

Noniko- Made by a breast cancer survivor. Wouldn’t be surprised to see this brand in a health food stores soon.

Meow Meow Tweet– Coconut oil=based, baking soda-free, plus it smells like citrus. A tough contender in my book. Using my fingers to apply actually felt fine as it was almost like a moisturizer!

Lavanilla– Think “Sporty Spice” of natural deodorants. Sport version is available and its also sold at Sephora.

Schmidts– This is a solid go to if you don’t have other options. The only thing I didn’t like was that the Lavender was irritating over time.

Naked From North Coast Organics- Seriously simple ingredients and has no smell. Maybe your a real purist? This might be for you! I like that they are a B-Corp, Leaping Bunny Certified, and Vegan. Naked is just one of their sticks and they have several other ones.

Heres The Black Shirt Test

Nakes Northwest Organics -1

Noniko and Meow Meow Tweet worked the best with this test. No crumbles and not too thick.
